HEALTHY PASTURES EQUALS HEALTHY BEEF

CONTINUING EDUCATION IN GRASS FED BEEF:

Continuing Education is very important for cattle ranchers raising and selling grass fed beef. Every year, Daviess County S.W.C.D. (Soil and Water Conservation District) hosts the Southern Indiana Grazing Conference. In March of 2018, the conference will take place at the WestGate Academy in Odon, Indiana. Tom Silliman, owner of T and S Ranch, personally attends this conference every year to stay current with new information that build lasting and nutritious grass for his grass fed beef in Lynville Indiana. This year, the topics include Adaptive Grazing, Utilizing Warm Season Forages, and Making Tall Fescue Work.  The benefit of knowledge gained from these 3 experts is huge when raising healthy beef. Read more about the Southern Indiana Grazing Conference speakers from their links below.

Interested in reading about the health of Grass Fed Beef?

For customers looking for an excellent book on the health benefits of grass fed beef, an excellent book is, “The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals” by Michael Pollan. This book discusses the Omega 6 fatty acids that feeding cattle on corn produces in the animal while feeding the animal on grass produces Omega 3 fatty acids in the animal’s meat.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in a healthy diet.  Feeding cattle on grass makes grass fed beef as healthy a diet as fish. This book was originally published in 2006 and is available on line from many sources.

A diet of Healthy Beef

In addition to attending the Grazing Conference every year, I maintain a subscription to The Stockman Grass Farmer. This magazine comes to me once a month, and it has articles every month on pasture health, animal care, rotational grazing, raising healthy beef and much more.
